Thanks to excellent fall detection, the Apple watch is an ideal medical alert device. While it wasn’t designed to be a medical alert system, and can’t compete with the likes of Medical Guardian or Great Call as an all-round medical alert system, it still should be credited with creating a mainstream wearable medical device option.
Apple’s fall alert system is activated by motion sensors in its smartwatch which quickly connect you to emergency services if you have a sharp slip and become immobile.
Being a smartwatch, Apple’s medical alert system is naturally mobile. Historically, medical alert systems for seniors with fall detection were domestic-only devices. They provided indoor protection, but didn’t work outside the home.
With the arrival of more modern medical alert devices and dynamic wearable tech, protection is now conveniently available anywhere, straight from your wrist.
When the smartwatch detects a loss of balance followed by a significant drop, Apple advises that it “taps you on the wrist, sounds an alarm, and displays an alert.” You can then dismiss this alert and tell the Health App you’re ok, or contact emergency services.
In this article, we’ll explain how to set up and use your Apple Watch as a wearable medical alert device.
Fall detection watches for senior citizens and those who require mobile medical attention have steadily grown in popularity since Apple released its first smartwatch in April 2015.
Medical alert smartwatches can assist you in calling an Uber or Lyft if you fall, set calendar reminders for medicine, show weather forecasts, translate emergency information if you’re abroad, after all. Plus, with reliable GPS in-built, sharing your location with friends and family only takes a tap.
To set up fall detection on an Apple Watch, you first need to tell it to detect slips. To do this:
Any falls you have will now be recorded in the Health App. To trigger a medical alert to your emergency contacts, you’ll also need to set up a Medical ID.

Apple likes to keep its apps exclusive to iPhones and iPads to dissuade its users from switching to Android. It’s why Apple never brought iMessage to Android, for instance.
With iOS 15, Apple will relax a bit on this policy: FaceTime users will be able to video chat with friends or family on Android phones, Windows PCs, or really any device with a functioning browser.
Along with end-to-end encryption, the new FaceTime app on iOS 15 supports SharePlay, which means people can share music, videos, links or other media with everyone else on the call. We don’t think Android users will have the option to access Apple apps through FaceTime, but third-party apps should hypothetically be fair game.
If you don’t own an iPhone, you can’t initiate a FaceTime call. Still, we’ll walk you through how to share a FaceTime link from an iPhone or iPad in case you need to walk someone else through the first steps. Then, we’ll explain how to use that FaceTime link on Android or Windows.
Here’s how the new FaceTime link system will work once you download iOS 15 or the iOS 15 beta.
To share a FaceTime link, you must have iOS 15 or iPadOS 15 installed. If you don’t already have it, you can check if your iPhone or iPad is iOS 15-compatible. For now, only the developer beta is available, but Apple should release a public beta with the new FaceTime app in July.
Once that’s settled, open FaceTime. Right at the top of the app, you should see Create Link. Tap that, and a submenu will appear with these options:
With just a few taps, you can share the link with anyone you choose, through a messaging app for one-on-one chats or email for group chats. It’s pretty straightforward! Now for the Android side of things.
Once your iPhone-owning loved one, friend or colleague sends you a FaceTime link, tap the link. It will take you to your default browser, where you’ll be asked to Enter your name to join the conversation. Type in your name and hit Continue.
With that, you’ll join the FaceTime call! You’ll see options to mute audio, hide video, switch between rear and selfie cams, or Leave call. You won’t see the same options as the host on their iPhone or iPad, but enough to make the service functional on your end.

The Euro 2020 soccer tournament has been one of the most anticipated sporting events in recent memory – and it hasn’t disappointed! After a 12-month delay, we’ve seen some fantastic action so far and, in most countries around the world, Apple TV is a handy device.
In total, 51 matches will be played across the month of competition. Fans across the world will be thrilled to find out that it’s possible to live stream Euro 2020 via numerous streaming services and platforms, including on your Apple TV.
Here, we take a closer look at watching Euro 2020 on Apple TV, outlining everything you need to know for a smooth, enjoyable experience. As well as reasons you may think it’s high time to grab yourself an Apple TV VPN, too.
Although the name suggests otherwise, Apple TV actually isn’t a TV at all. In fact, it’s a small plastic box from the tech giant that’s designed to help you stream movies, shows, and other content to your existing television.
Although the ability to get Euro 2020 on Apple TV depends on your country, in most cases you will be able to see every match on your Apple TV. For example, in the USA, all matches are available via the ESPN network, including 39 on ESPN, seven on ESPN2, and five on ABC. And if you’re hoping to watch Euro 2020 without cable, then the likes of Sling TV and Fubo are compatible, too.
Based in the UK, New Zealand, India or frankly, pretty much anywhere else in the world? There’s a veritable hatful of broadcasters around the globe that feature Apple TV apps, such as:
It’s important to understand that you can’t just plug your Apple TV in and begin streaming Euro 2020 matches. Fortunately, though, it is quite easy to get started.
First, you will need to make sure you have an active subscription to a streaming service that shows the games where you live (some examples above), whether that be a free-to-air broadcaster or a paid subscription.
One of the great things about Apple TV is its mobility. If you’re going away on holidays or for business, then just shove it at the bottom of the suitcase and have it available to watch wherever you are (as long as there’s a TV present, of course).
That’s all very well, but you might find that your chosen Euro 2020 streaming service is unavailable due to geo-restrictions.

The iPhone’s default ‘Reflection’ ringtone hasn’t changed in a few years, and it’s high time for you to switch things up.
We’ll show you how to change your iPhone ringtone, either to one of the free Apple ringtones or to a paid ringtone from Apple Music.
Beyond that, if you’re here to learn how to add custom ringtones to specific contacts, or how to create your own ringtones from your music files, we’ll outline those steps as well.
Finding and changing the main ringtone options takes just a few seconds if you’re willing to use the complementary sounds that Apple provides.
Open the Settings app and tap Sounds & Haptics (in the second section between Notifications and Do Not Disturb). In the Sounds and Vibration Patterns section, you’ll see the option to change your Ringtone, text tone, AirDrop delivery noise, or Alerts for voicemail, new or sent mail, calendar events or reminders.
Tap on Ringtone (or any other option). You’ll see a list of ringtones, including ‘Classic’ ringtones that stem all the way back from the older iPhones. You’ll also see any purchased Tones from iTunes or Music. You’ll also have the option to add custom vibrations for a specific Ringtone or Alert so you can feel the difference in your pocket.
A great way to make sure you don’t miss calls from important people in your life is to give them a distinctive – or louder – ringtone than the one you assign to telemarketers and randos.
Open your Phone app and tap the Contacts tab. Choose the person you want to assign a ringtone to, and then tap the ‘Edit’ button in the top-right of the screen. You’ll see an option to add a new Ringtone or Text Tone to that person’s number.
Tap Ringtone. You can choose any available Ringtone, choose another Vibration setting beyond the default, or activate Emergency Bypass to ensure their ringtone plays even in silent mode or when Do Not Disturb is active.
In the Sounds & Haptics menu, you’ll see a link to the Tone Store. Tap that, or open the iTunes Store, tap the More ellipsis tab, and choose Tones. You’ll see a variety of official ringtones or alerts from your favorite musicians, movies or shows.

Finally, after a year’s worth of delays, the Euro 2020 football tournament is here. Needless to say, soccer fans across the world are in football heaven, and if you’re one of them – and own a Roku streaming device – then there’s a month of international games to enjoy.
Whether you’re lucky enough to have a local free-to-air broadcaster showing matches, or you need to pay for your service, then Roku is generally a reliable midfield dynamo to get a Euro 2020 live stream. That said, despite being one of the more popular streaming devices on the market, it isn’t 100% compatible with Euro 2020 broadcasters. So read on to see whether using a Roku for Euro 2020 is an option.
In simple terms, a Roku is a streaming device that enables you to watch internet content – such as movies, music, or sport – to your TV. With a Roku, you can easily access popular streaming services such as Netflix, as well as a range of free and premium live television channels.
Many people use a Roku device because of the versatility and flexibility it offers. Unless you already have one, you will have to pay for a Roku device, which can cost anywhere from $30 into the hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars.
But remember, having the Roku doesn’t automatically give you access to the championship. On top of this, you will need to ensure you have access to a channel that is going to show the Euro 2020 tournament, which could add an extra cost depending on where you live.
Now, watching Euro 2020 on Roku certainly won’t be the best choice for everyone. However, there are a few different situations where it may be an appealing option.
Once you have your Roku device connected to your TV, streaming Euro 2020 is as simple as signing up for a streaming service that shows one of the channels broadcasting the tournament.
In the US that’s ESPN and ABC (or the likes of Sling TV and FuboTV if you’re a cord cutter) and the BBC and ITV in the UK – all of those services have an easy-to-use and install app on Roku.
To get started with watching Euro 2020 on Roku, you will need to follow a few simple steps. First, ensure you’re signed up with a streaming service that’s going to show the tournament (as above for UK and US) and have your login details handy.
Use the search function to find your streaming service, select the Add Channel option, and install the app on your device. Navigate to the app and follow the prompts to sign in with your credentials.

A well-written business plan holds a lot of value. It’s where your ideas start to take shape and the direction of your new enterprise becomes clear – but it can seem intimidating.
Business plans require focus: you’re stating why you’re doing what you’re doing, and how you expect to do it. There can be a lot to note down.
Ultimately, though, your business plan is going to become an essential guide for you, your team, and anyone involved in your company.
So let’s uncover what it takes to write a business plan, and find out how it can benefit you.
In short, a business plan is a description of your business and everything that goes into it.
As well as helping to clarify the business idea that you have, it brings into focus elements like financing, staffing, revenue targets, and marketing strategies.
Business plans aren’t exclusive to startups, either. If you’re regenerating an existing company, a detailed and structured plan is enormously useful.
Not all success stories have required business plans, but a comprehensive plan will help you to identify any immediate routes to failure.
Although you’re putting a business concept on paper and announcing your mission statement, a plan has to be structured, not fanciful.
The first person it’s trying to convince is you. Are you ready to spend time and money on this?

Laptops in Apple’s MacBook series have been designed to last many years through regular use. If there’s one piece of hardware that might need to be replaced in that time, however, it’s the internal battery.
Your computer’s battery only lasts a set number of cycles that vary depending on your MacBook model. When those cycles are exhausted, and your computer reaches the maximum cycle count, you’ll start to notice a drop in battery performance.
Eventually, you’ll need to decide whether to continue using the laptop through corded power only or purchase a new battery from Apple.
Every time you use your MacBook, its battery goes through charge cycles. One cycle is when you use all of the battery’s power. An important point to understand is you don’t exhaust a cycle count each time you charge your computer’s battery.
For example, if your MacBook battery is at 40% and you recharge it, you still have 60% left on the current charge. The next day, you charge the battery at 50%, which leaves 10% in the cycle. In this case, you’ve gone over two days before exhausting one cycle.
In another example, you charge your MacBook’s battery at 50% on one day and 50% on the next. Here, it took two full days to exhaust one charge cycle.
As you continue using your MacBook, the battery’s charge capacity will slowly diminish. As it does, a charge cycle won’t last as nearly as long. When the device reaches maximum cycle count, it should retain up to 80% of its original charge capacity, and it will go down from there.
To find the cycle count on your MacBook, hold down the ‘Option’ key while clicking on the Apple menu at the top left. Choose ‘System Information’. Under the ‘Hardware’ section of the ‘System Information’ window, choose ‘Power’. You’ll see the current cycle count under the ‘Battery Information’ section.
In this same section, you can also find the battery condition and its current maximum capacity percentage. If the battery condition is anything but ‘Normal’, you should contact Apple Technical Support.
Apple has a running list of maximum cycle counts for each MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro version. More recent MacBook models have a maximum cycle count of 1000, while earlier models have a count from 300 to 500.

Chrome OS has many strengths compared to legacy operating systems like Windows 10 and macOS. Today’s best Chromebooks are insanely popular, in no small part due to the affordable nature usually seen. But with lower prices comes sacrifices on hardware, and most budget machines are now using 4GB of RAM.
That used to be OK, but like everything else, Chrome OS as it has matured has grown a little and now consumes more resources than ever. After all, the way the Chrome browser gobbles up system resources on Windows and Mac is well documented.
4GB of RAM isn’t enough anymore, and until either Google sorts it out or Chromebook makers start using 8GB of RAM as a minimum, it falls on you, the user. Either have a poorer experience or do something about it. We’re going to show you how to do something about it.
There are two things you can do that take little time to accomplish but that will make your overall Chromebook experience better. These involve reducing your reliance on Chrome extensions and turning off Android altogether.
If you’re curious to see what exactly is going on with your Chromebook and its RAM use, you can download the ‘Cog’ Chrome app from the Chrome Web Store. It’s a neat little tool to show you some system details along with real-time CPU and RAM use.
You can also access the Chrome OS task manager by pressing the ‘Search + Esc’ keys at the same time. This is just like the Windows 10 task manager, it will tell you what’s currently active and how much of your resources it’s using.
It’s easy to install Chrome extensions and just forget about them but the truth is, they’re all a detriment to your system if you aren’t using them. They’re all using a little bit of RAM just existing on your Chromebook, so if you aren’t actively using one on a regular basis, get rid of it.
Open up the browser, go into ‘Settings’ and then ‘Extensions’. Then go through the list one by one, decide if you really need it, and then hit ‘Remove from Chrome’ if you can live without it.
No single extension will make a huge difference, though most ad-blockers will be using around 150MB of RAM on their own. If you’re an extension hoarder, getting rid of stuff you really don’t need will free up valuable resources for something you do need.
Also, be mindful of how many tabs you have open at any one time. They all use up some RAM, so if you don’t need 64 open tabs at a time, close them down.

Changing the desktop theme in Windows has been around ever since the days of Windows 98. In 2021, it’s easier than ever to install a full 4K theme for your PC that transforms your icons and windows, not just the color-scheme.
There’s plenty of methods to install a Windows 10 theme, such as from the Microsoft Store, or by using other applications that can change the color-scheme to your windows and taskbar.
With rumours of a refresh to the user interface coming to Windows 10 21H2 ‘Sun Valley’, or even Windows 11, there’s plenty of opportunities right now to change the look and feel of your PC into something tailored to you.
With this in mind, here’s how to install some themes to make your PC shine even more, and not just on the outside with your RGB.
Before Windows 8, there really wasn’t an official method to install new themes, but with the introduction of the Microsoft Store, it was made much easier.
Go to the themes section in the Microsoft Store. Browse the section and if you want to install one, just click on a theme, press ‘Get’ and it will install. Navigate to Settings > Personalization > Themes and it will show alongside the existing themes, ready to give your PC a change in looks.
However, as the store isn’t the greatest in displaying what a theme can look like across the whole PC, alongside its clunky user interface, it’s almost a needle in the haystack of finding one that you will like.
This is where third-party themes come in. An application called UltraUXThemePatcher needs to be downloaded first in order for third-party themes to be installed. It modifies certain files in Windows 10 that are responsible for modifying the user interface, but it does restore these back to normal if UltraUXThemePatcher is uninstalled.
Once installed, you can head over to DeviantArt or ThemePack and look for a theme that best suits you.
Once you’ve found a theme you like, drop them into ‘WindowsResourcesThemes’.
